Claremont Deck with a View

This large, 2nd story deck replaces an old rotten one of the same size. To prevent future replacement anytime soon, the clients requested low-maintenance composite decking and railing. Out in the country, privacy is of little concern from neighbors. In-fact, the view out back is everything. We installed a custom combination of composite post sleeves, 10mm glass and stainless steel glass clamps. The thick glass allows for no hand rail, leaving the view unobstructed. Above the deck is a matching master bedroom balcony featuring the same material and railing. In front of the balcony and above the lounging area, we built a chunky Cedar pergola. Led lighting around the deck perimeter lights up the glass rail at night. Underneath the deck, for the walkout basement, we built large armor stone retaining walls with a small stone patio.

Our Task

Many styles were thrown around trying to come up with an esthetically pleasing and functional deck. Benjamin believed because of the house’s modern country style, symmetry would be best to focus on. Layout, function, symmetry and style were all achieved with this simple design. The Cedar pergola offers the perfect balance for the large flat backside of the house. Otherwise an awkward, standing out feature, the balcony above almost disappears from view with this design.
